One note. That’s all you need to play to fall in love with this guitar. Sure, you can focus on the variable technical and design elements that make a great guitar such as scale length, smooth tone, excellent sustain, balanced action, exotic top-woods, etc, etc…but the best guitar in our eyes is one that feels just right when you play that first note. It doesn’t require modification to “build-in” the qualities of a premium guitar, they just simply exist by the nature of the design. That was the goal we had to meet for a local San Diego luthier’s electric guitar project. For this design project we presented a true-to-scale 3D generated prototype so that features and figures could be changed on the fly. Using actual measurements, we focused on the form and scale properties to ultimately infuse a visual “aura” that elicits passion and makes a statement. Combined with the builder’s expertise in playability and tone, we made theoretical adjustments to our model that provided a comprehensive design blueprint used to bring this beauty to life. Once the prototype was built and played, we made some minor adjustments to the CG model until it was a perfect match. Future renderings now allow the artist and builder to visualize different top-woods, colors, hardware combinations and signature designs all on-the-fly, thereby setting the stage for each new handmade guitar.
